Engine On, Gas Light Empty: 4 Steps to Fill Your Tank

“Engine on, gas light empty.” These were the exact words my client Kirstin used to describe how she felt before we began working together.

Maybe you’ve felt that way too—like you’re running on fumes. My hope in sharing her story is to offer you something powerful: hope. Hope that change is possible. Hope that your body is not broken. Hope that you are, as Psalm 139 says, “fearfully and wonderfully made.” God didn’t design you to merely survive. He has a future and a hope for you (Jeremiah 29:11)—and it includes your health.

Before: A Life in Survival Mode

Picture this:
You’re walking through each day feeling heavy, disconnected, and weary. Hot flashes interrupt your sleep. Bloating makes you dread getting dressed. Depression clouds your thoughts. And in crowded spaces, you just shut down & you’re juggling multiple prescriptions

This was Kirstin’s life just a few years ago

Sadly, her story isn’t unique. We’ve been taught as girls—and then as women—that this is just what aging looks like. That it’s normal to feel exhausted, hormonal, anxious, and inflamed. But what if I told you the truth?

This is common. But it’s not normal.
These symptoms are your body’s cry for help. They are signals, not life sentences. And when Kirstin came to me, she was ready to listen. She knew her health was affecting every part of her life—her work, her relationships, and especially her marriage.

The Process: What We Did to Begin the Transformation

1. Identify Foods That Heal—and Those That Harm
We live in a world of information overload. Every day we’re bombarded with new “superfoods,” diet fads, and supplement recommendations. But here’s the truth I tell every client:
“One person’s food is another person’s poison.”

We worked to identify what foods were actually inflaming Kirstin’s body—and which ones helped her feel energized, balanced, and well. There’s no one-size-fits-all. Your body has unique needs, and we must listen to what it’s saying.

2. Remove What’s Keeping You From Healing
Sometimes the problem goes deeper than food. For Kirstin, we explored possible root causes: Was there a parasite? A fungal overgrowth? Bacterial imbalance? Could emotional stress or a toxic relationship be playing a role?

Let me tell you this: You could eat perfectly and take all the “right” supplements, but if your lifestyle is forcing your body into a constant state of stress, you’ll stay in survival mode. Your body can’t prioritize digestion, hormone balance, or restful sleep when it thinks you’re running from a bear every day.

3. Add the Right Support
Supplements should support—not replace—a healthy lifestyle. Too many women come to me taking 10+ supplements and still feel awful. Why? Because it’s not about how many you take. It’s about what you take—and whether your body even needs it.

We also talked about non-bottle supplements. Things like:

  • Walking in nature
  • Breathing deeply
  • Laughing with loved ones
  • Journaling and prayer
  • Stretching or working in the garden barefoot

These simple practices are free, and yet deeply nourishing.

4. Build a Circle of Support
True healing requires community. Kirstin’s husband, Robert, saw how much she was struggling. Once he understood the importance of her health, he was all in. His words?
“Men, give your wife the gift of Amber Swift’s knowledge and expertise. Your wife and marriage are worth the investment.”

When your spouse is on board, everything changes. Often, they’ll even join the journey themselves.

Where Is Kirstin Now?

Kirstin is now 51—and says she feels like she’s in her 30s. She knows what foods work for her body. Her energy is steady. The bloating and hormonal chaos are gone. Her marriage is flourishing. And Robert? He was struggling with high blood pressure—but after swapping his daily coffee for matcha (on Kirstin’s suggestion), he is feeling fabulous too.

It’s Your Turn

I want you to know something: You don’t have to live on empty.
You are not broken. You are not too far gone. Your body was created with an incredible ability to heal—but it needs your help.

If you’re tired of just surviving and are ready to thrive, I’d love to walk with you. Let’s make a plan together to get your body back in gear—and your life back on track.

Health is a journey, but it’s one worth taking.
You were made for more.
