1 Cleaning Up Excess Fluid Around Your Cells
Blood vessels constantly exchange fluid with the tissues surrounding your cells.
Most of that fluid eventually returns to the bloodstream, but some enters tiny lymphatic capillaries. Once inside the lymphatic system, this fluid is called lymph.
The lymphatic system collects excess fluid along with proteins and other substances and eventually returns much of it to the circulation.
Without this drainage system, fluid could accumulate in tissues.
This is why damage or obstruction of lymphatic vessels can cause lymphedema, a condition characterized by persistent swelling.
Think of your lymphatic system as part drainage system, part transportation network and part security patrol.
It isn’t a “detox pipe” in the trendy sense.

What About Dry Brushing, Rebounding and Lymphatic Massage?
This is where wellness claims can get ahead of the evidence.

Exercise is also an important component of many lymphedema-management programs.
But claims that dry brushing or bouncing on a trampoline “removes toxins” from an otherwise healthy person’s body aren’t well established by clinical evidence.

Dry brushing may feel good.
Rebounding is movement.

Just don’t confuse feeling refreshed with proof that mysterious toxins have been physically squeezed out of your body.
